I have been using FoxyProxy for years across both Firefox and Chrome, and it remains one of the most reliable proxy management extensions out there. It is particularly useful when you need pattern-based routing with visual feedback — the color-coded toolbar icon tells you at a glance which proxy is active.

If you are doing web scraping, ad verification, or market research on Indian websites, FoxyProxy combined with Snowpad's SOCKS5 proxy gives you precise control over your traffic routing.

Installing FoxyProxy

FoxyProxy comes in two versions: FoxyProxy Standard (free) and FoxyProxy Plus (paid with more features). The Standard version is sufficient for most use cases.

Install it from the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons marketplace. After installation, you will see a fox icon in your toolbar.

Adding a SOCKS5 Proxy

Click the FoxyProxy icon and select Options. This opens the proxy management panel. Click Add New Proxy and configure:

  • Proxy Type: SOCKS5
  • Host: gw.snowpad.io
  • Port: 9999
  • Username: Your Snowpad API key
  • Password: Your Snowpad password

Give it a descriptive name like "Snowpad India" and click Save.

Creating URL Patterns

FoxyProxy's strength is pattern matching. Under the Patterns tab for your proxy, add URL patterns that should use this proxy:

  • *amazon.in*
  • *flipkart.com*
  • *linkedin.com*
  • *twitter.com*

Set the default mode to Direct Connection so everything else bypasses the proxy. FoxyProxy will automatically route matching URLs through Snowpad.

Color-Coded Status

Each proxy profile can have a custom color. When that proxy is active, the toolbar icon changes to that color. This is surprisingly useful when you are juggling multiple proxy configurations — a quick glance tells you exactly what is routing where.

Pre-Built Proxy Lists

FoxyProxy supports importing proxy lists as JSON. This is great for teams: export your Snowpad configuration once and share it with everyone. No more walking colleagues through setup steps.

For a comparison of SOCKS5 versus HTTP proxies and why SOCKS5 is the right choice for most scraping workloads, read SOCKS5 vs HTTP Proxy Comparison.

FoxyProxy vs SwitchyOmega

Both extensions do similar things, but they have different strengths:

Feature FoxyProxy SwitchyOmega
Color-coded icons Yes No
Pattern matching Yes Yes
Auto-switch mode Yes Yes
Browser support Chrome + Firefox Chrome only

If you are on Firefox, FoxyProxy is the better choice since SwitchyOmega is Chrome-only. If you are on Chrome, try both and see which workflow you prefer — I have written a SwitchyOmega setup guide as well.

Final Thoughts

FoxyProxy is battle-tested and reliable. Combined with Snowpad's SOCKS5 proxy at gw.snowpad.io:9999, it gives you pattern-based routing with excellent visual feedback. The color-coded icons and JSON export make it my go-to recommendation for teams that need consistent proxy configurations across multiple machines.
